Life throws up many challenges, some within our abilities to manage and some seemingly beyond us.
Some are changes we desperately want to make in ourselves and our lives. Others turn up, out of the blue and shake our worlds.
We may find ourselves in the midst of a troubling issue or event, such as loss or bereavement, struggling to understand painful emotions or grappling with a personal problem that seems impossible to overcome.
Our ways of coping with these challenges may not always be effective. We may, for instance, describe ourselves as going round in circles, repeating unhelpful and self-limiting behaviours. Or we may feel that we keep hitting up against a brick wall.
I see these as natural responses and reactions to life events.
At these times we may need someone to talk to who is not family or friend. Someone impartial and objective who will accept us just as we are without judgement. Someone who will respect our privacy.
